WAYCROSS — Pierce County’s 200-yard freestyle relay team clinched a season straight Class AA championship finals berth here Tuesday at the YMCA in the “The Last Chance Meet” hosted by Ware County.
The team of Rowan McCrea, Donald Moser, Walker Sergent and Sam Chesser finished with a qualifying time of 1:39.59 beating the start mark of 1:40.00 in the January 28 meet.
The Lady Bears’ Jacey Ryals posted a first-place finish for PCHS taking the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:25.81. She placed second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:30.83.
Teagan Dixon finished first in the 100 backstroke (1:11.04) and second in the 100 freestyle (1:04.96).
Other highlights were Davis Dyal improving five seconds in the 100 freestyle event and Khloe Hewatt posting personal-bests in both the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Savannah event
SAVANNAH — PCHS competed Saturday, January 25 at the Chatham County Aquatic Complex.
The Bears placed third with the LadyBears placing fourth for an overall fourth-place showing.
Chesser logged the lone first-place finish for the PCHS program winning the boys 50-yard freestyle event.
He posted a time of 23.55 seconds in the event. He placed second in the 500 free recording a time of 6:08 — seven seconds better than his previous best time.
The Bears’ 200 free relay team of McCrae, Moser, Davis Dyal and Chesser placed second with a time of 1:42.98 - three seconds off a state qualifying time.
The 200 medley relay team of McCrae, Dyal, Chesser and Moser finished third with a time of 2:05.10.
McCrae posted a fifth-place finish (26.63 sec.) in the 50 free with Teagan Dixon copping a sixth-place showing (1:11.59) in the 100 backstroke.
For the Lady Bears, Ryals placed seventh setting a personal best (1:28.6) in the 100 breaststroke. Jasmine Sergent also placed seventh with a personal best (2:56.29) in the 200 intermediate.
