PCHS jayvee hoopsters garner split

Pierce County’s junior varsity basketball teams went 1-1 last week with the Lady Bears winning at home and Bears falling on the road.

The Lady Bears recorded a 29-18 victory Friday, January 31 at home over visiting Tattnall County. The Bears fell 45-40 Saturday, February 1 in Cordele to Crisp County.

Lady Bears ..................................... 29 Tattnall County .............................. 18 BEARVILLE — A six-point first quarter lead proved more than enough as the Lady Bears held off Tattnall County.

PCHS doubled up the Lady Warriors 12-6 in the opening stanza. Tattnall County chipped one point off the deficit by halftime outscoring the Lady Bears 76 to get to within 18-13.

Both teams struggled to put the ball in the basket during the third stanza with Pierce County holding a 4-2 scoring advantage to extend the lead to 22-15. The Lady Bears closed the game outscoring the visitors 7-3 for the 11-point win.

Azaela Mobley paced PCHS with a game-high 10 points. Kamil Strickland tossed in six points. Caren Drew and Jesslyn Moore bagged four points and three points respectively. Jose’ziah James, Aubree Wilkins and Keirsten Jones each chipped in two points.

Crisp County .................................. 45 Bears.............................................. 40 CORDELE — Crisp County doubled up the Bears over the final two periods to overcome a five-point halftime deficit for the win.

The host Cougars claimed a 12-11 lead following the first period. Pierce County found an offensive rhythm in the second stanza outscoring the home team 19-13 to grab a 30-25 halftime lead.

Crisp County outscored the Bears 14-8 in the third quarter to take a 39-38 lead. The Cougars outpointed PCHS 6-2 in the final period.

Jemil Strickland paced Pierce County with 18 points. Trey Clarke was next with 10 points. Kendrick Benson contributed four points while Ty Monroe, Amir McKenzie, Marshon Stanford and Rhyheim Broadhead each netted two points.
