WAYCROSS — Sandra Joyce Harris, 65, of Waycross died Wednesday night, January 15, 2025, at HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital surrounded by family, love, laughter and music.
Mrs. Harris was born in Gainesville, Fla., but grew up in Fitzgerald, Ga. She moved to Jacksonville, Fla., in 1976 where she raised her family. Mrs. Harris worked many jobs but being a mother was the most important one of all.
After the passing of her husband, she made Waycross her home with a special friend Johnny Young. She loved her children and grandchildren very much, and was so proud of each and every one of them.
Mrs. Harris enjoyed a good football game, especially the University of Georgia and as she would say, “Go Dawgs.” Her favorite thing to do was lay out in the sun by a nice cold pool or right beside the ocean while hearing the waves crash down. Somedays you could also find her at a pond or creek with her fishing pole in the water determined to catch see OBITS, Page 4A

Harris the biggest one, and most of the time she did have the biggest catch. If you truly knew her then you knew she loved to watch good ol’ scary movies or those ghost adventure shows, even if that meant she had to sleep with the lights on.

Mrs. Harris was known for not sugarcoating anything, even if you didn’t ask for her opinion in the first place, and that’s what most people loved about her. She loved to laugh and joke and just have a good time with family because that is what meant the most to her. Mrs. Harris will be deeply missed by many. And if she could say any final words, it would be “Live life to the fullest, I love y’all and remember to keep those toes under the covers.”
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by parents, George Hoyt Croft and Zollen Hardy Croft; brothers, Ronald Croft, Michael Croft, Carl Harris and Alvie Harris; sister, Charlene Taylor Harris; father-inlaw, Charles W. Harris, Sr.; and mother-in-law, Norma Jean Stickland Broome.
Mrs. Harris is survived by three children, Charles Harris, Jr., wife Tiffany, of Jacksonville, Fla., Marcus Harris, wife Heather, of Jacksonville, and Stacey Robertson, husband Jeremy of Waycross; 12 grandchildren, Logan, Carter, Levi, Megan H., Zak, Emily, Mark, Megan R., Mallory, Makaylen, Maci and Marlee; sisters, Brenda McCullough, husband Paul, Mary Jo Cooley, husband Wayne, Charlotte Douylliez, Cathy Moore, husband Robert, Brenda Bell, husband Ricky, and Tabitha Rewis; brothers, Doug Croft, wife Teresa, Ralph Croft, Kenneth Croft, Fred Ferst and Christopher Harris, wife Royale; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
