James Thomas “Jimmy” Carter, 83, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
A native of Bryan County, he was the son of Willie F. Carter and Gladys Ella Lee Carter Harvey and Dan Edward Harvey. He grew up in Savannah and lived in Liberty County most of his life. He worked for many years for Sherwin Williams in Savannah before working as a deputy for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department for 18 years, retiring in 2006. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles and drinking coffee at the Ludowici Huddle House. His wife, Annette Deal Carter, preceded him in death December 10 2024. He was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Wallace Lee “Jack” Carter (Margie).
Survivors include his children, Cheryl Arnold (Kevin), Savannah, Debbie Dees (John), Baxley, David Martin (Leisha), Odum and Greg Martin (BeBe), Kingsland; grandchildren, Blaze (Samantha) Martin, Christopher Martin, J. C. Dees, Dylan Martin, Zach Martin and Josh Martin; great-grandchildren, Levi and Shelby and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17 from the Howard Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Jason Deal officiating.
Musical selection “Wish You Were Here” was rendered by Marty Adams.
Interment followed in Lake Chapel Cemetery in Appling County.
Honorary pallbearers were Lamar Cook, Daryl Maney, Fred Hand, Marty and Casey Adams and Papa and Grandma Eason.
