Joseph Gary “Joe” Shipes

ODUM — Joseph Gary “Joe” Shipes, 69 of Odum, died Saturday, April 29, 2023.

The Wayne County native was a former truck driver with Satilla Transport and was an avid farmer, mechanic and loved being the “Candyman”.  Shipes enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being with family and friends.

He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Sue McHarque.

Survivors are a sister, Barbara Camp of Columbia, S.C.; brothers, Robert (Kathy) Shipes of Leesville, S.C.; Gene Rockafellow of Jesup, Kevin (Melva) Rockafellow of Nahunta, and several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside funeral services was held Tuesday, May 2, from Screven City Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Manning, Jr. officiating. Active pallbearers will be his family.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of arrangements.
