Born in Blackshear November 20, 1956, he lived in Wayne County most of his adult life. He served in the U.S. Army. He would go on to become a “Jack-of-all-trades” working in carpentry, woodworking and electrical jobs over the years having last worked for Overhead Doors. In his younger days, he was what you would consider a free spirit.  He was able to hang out with well-known bands such as 38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Molly Hatchet. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.  He also enjoyed restoring guns and making fishing lures. He was always adventurous and was a true thrill seeker. He had the gift of gab – he never met a stranger, loved to make people laugh and could tell the best stories. He was very trusting, loyal, giving and caring and was dearly loved by all who knew him. He attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
He was a son of the late Phillip Eldridge Smith.  He was also preceded in death by his son, Philip Ray Smith and a great-grandson, Wesley Brown.
Survivors include three daughters, Brandi Lin (James) Eliuk, Bonnyville, Alberta, Canada, Sunshine Lamb, Titusville, FL, and Savannah Desiree Lamb, Bristol; his mother, Betty Jo Cason Smith, Bristol; his sister, Tammy Smith, Bristol; three brothers, Philip Smith and Benny Smith, both of Bristol and Rodney Smith, San Diego, CA; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
