WAYCROSS — Mrs. Lynda McKay Strickland, 81, passed away Monday morning, October 26, 2026 at Satilla Bluffs Senior Care Center.
A resident of Waycross, Mrs. Strickland was born March 4, 1945 in Waycross to the late Archie Carol McKay and Estelle Sammons McKay. She received her Master’s Degree in Education from Valdosta State University.
Mrs. Strickland began her teaching career in special education at Bacon County Junior High School. She retired from Ware County Middle School in 1998.
Mrs. Strickland was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed gardening and fishing in her spare time.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Strickland was preceded in death by her sisters, Irma Jean Melton and Doris McDade.
Survivors include two children, Summer Strickland Gowen of Hoboken and Matthew Adam Strickland (Kim) of Brunswick; grandchildren, Sloan Harris (Austin), Logan Sauls (Jacob), Seth Gowen, Jordan Strickland, Kara Strickland and Shaun Munoz; great grandchildren, Holden Harris, Paisley Strickland, Stella Strickland, McKendree Harris and Colton Strickland; a sister, Molly Rowland (Johnny) of Waycross; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2026 at Kettle Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m., Friday at Music Funeral Home.
