Thank you for recognizing the retired teachers
SPECIAL PHOTO

Editor, On behalf of all retired educators in Brantley County (that’s ANYONE — teachers, paras, sec’ys, etc.) who has retired from the Brantley County system, or any Brantley County resident who has retired from ANY school system, I would like to thank Chairman Chris Harris and the Brantley County Board of Commissioners, Mayor Joey Crews and the Hoboken City Council, and Mayor Marty Lee and the Nahunta City Council for recognizing our retired educators by proclaiming Sunday, November 1, 2026 as “Retired Educators Day”, and calling upon their citizens “to observe that day in an appropriate manner honoring retired educators.”

Georgia Retired Educators Day is recognized annually all over Georgia, all the way up to the state level, with the initial proclamation made and disseminated by Governor Brian Kemp.

The Brantley County Retired Educators Association (BCREA), a chapter of the Georgia Retired Educators Association (GREA), is working toward recognizing our local retired educators at our Brantley County churches that morning.

We’ve been actively attempting to reach pastors and/or other church contacts, and would be happy for any assistance provided. Interested individuals may contact Tim Sawyer with any information.

The BCREA and GREA encourage everyone to take this opportunity to recognize retired educators and to thank them for their service!
