WAYCROSS — On October 24, 2026, Mr. Johnnie Mitchell III, of Waycross, peacefully transitioned from this earthly life while resting in his sleep.

Mitchell was born to the late Johnnie Mitchell II and Willie L. Davis on March 27, 1935. As the eldest of 13 children, he held a special place within his family. He received his formal education through the Ware County School System, where he began building the foundation for a life filled with hard work, dedication, and meaningful relationships.

Mitchell was blessed to marry his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, the late Genivie S. Mitchell. Their love story began in their younger years and grew into a cherished union filled with love and companionship.

With a strong sense of duty and commitment, Johnnie proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Following his military service, he established a successful career as an electrician with CSX Transportation where he devoted many years of faithful service before retiring.

One of the most meaningful chapters of Mitchell's life was his spiritual journey. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and became associated with the Kingdom Hall where he embraced what he lovingly referred to as “the truth.” His faith became a guiding light in his life, shaping his conversations, relationships, and outlook on the world.

Mitchell never met a stranger. He genuinely enjoyed meeting new people, engaging in thoughtful conversations, and sharing the wisdom he found in the Bible. He had a special way of leaving others with something meaningful to reflect upon, often encouraging them to seek a deeper understanding of God’s Word.

One of his favorite scriptures, which beautifully reflected his love for biblical truth, was John 8: 32:

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Mitchell’s life will be remembered for his devotion to his faith, his love for his family, his years of dedicated service, and his willingness to share an encouraging word with everyone he encountered. Though his earthly journey has come to an end, the memories he created, the wisdom he shared, and the love he extended will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Though his earthly Journey has ended, Mitchell’s kindness, quiet strength, and love for all will continue to be remembered. May his life be honored in stories shared, the memories held close, and the love that remains.

Services are private. Final Care and Service of Compassion are being provided by Rainge Memorial Chapel.
