WAYCROSS — Mr. Edgar David Stone, 80, of Waycross, died early Wednesday morning, October 14, 2026, at Memorial Satilla Health after a brief illness.
He was born in Waycross to the late Alvin James Stone and Annie Crews Stone. Stone retired from the City of Waycross in 2009 after 42 years of service, where he worked as Superintendent for Oakland Cemetery.
He also worked as a tree surgeon for 50 years. Stone was a “Jack-of-allTrades” person who loved to tinker on lawn mowers and enjoyed fishing. He attended Waresboro Baptist Church and Liberty Christian Church.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Stone; two brothers, James Stone and his wife, Doris, and Monroe Stone.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandra Stone of Waycross; two sons, Greg Stone and his wife, Natalie, of Blackshear, and David Stone and his wife, Traci, of Waycross; two grandsons, Derek Stone and Jonathan Stone; his two precious dogs, Daisy and Lucy; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Stone of Waycross; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service was held October 17 at Liberty Christian Church. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
