Women’s & Children’s Services Director Haley Dixon opens a box of butterflies to help children and other community members release the delicate creatures at the annual Infant & Pregnancy Loss Remembrance Day event staged earlier this month by Memorial Satilla Health. The hospital facilitated the release of the butterflies October 15 at the YMCA of Waycross playground with community members gathered for an evening dedicated to honoring and remembering babies lost during pregnancy or infancy, and supporting those families who have experienced loss. The butterflies represented symbols of love, remembrance and hope, honoring the lives of babies too soon departed. The gathering provided an opportunity for families and community members to come together, reflect and find comfort in shared support during the late afternoon activity.
