Special to the WJH
The Exchange Club of Waycross recently welcomed Dr. Meredith Parmelee of American Eye Care as its guest speaker, giving members an opportunity to learn more about the importance of protecting one of our most valuable senses — our sight.
Dr. Parmelee is a Doctor of Optometry who serves patients in the Waycross community. Originally from Clarksville, Tenn., she completed her undergraduate studies at Furman University before attending the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis.
She was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society at the Memphis campus. Dr. Parmelee also spent six years working in an optometry and ophthalmology co-management setting before joining the practice.
Her career in eye care is also a family affair. While attending Southern College of Optometry, she met her husband, Dr. Joshua Parmelee, who is also an optometrist.
Today, the husband-and-wife team has the special opportunity to practice alongside one another and serve patients throughout Southeast Georgia. Dr. Joshua Parmelee has particular interests in eye diseases including cataracts, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma and macular degeneration, as well as the co-management of several types of eye surgery.
Joining the Parmelees at American Eye Care is Dr. J. Scot Ellis, an experienced optometric physician who joined the practice after more than 30 years of practice in southern New Jersey. Dr. Ellis brings extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of conditions such as dry eye, glaucoma, diabetes and cataracts.
During her visit to the Exchange Club, Dr. Parmelee shared valuable information about eye health and the importance of routine eye examinations.
Comprehensive eye care is about much more than simply determining whether someone needs glasses or contacts.
Regular examinations can also help identify eye diseases and other concerns early, allowing patients and their doctors to better protect their vision.
Together, the doctors and staff at American Eye Care provide comprehensive vision care to Waycross and the surrounding communities, including routine and diabetic eye examinations, contact lens services and the diagnosis, treatment or co-management of a variety of eye conditions.
