School superintendent Dara Bennett was given a three year contract extension during a called meeting Friday morning.

The decision came following a brief closed session to discuss personnel.

Bennett’s current contract was due to expire this year. The new contract will run through October, 2029.

Bennett started her tenure as superintendent in April, 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic began.

She led the school system through that period and the transition to re-opening schools.

Prior to being named as School Superintendent, Bennett served as principal at Pierce County High School for seven years. She served as assistant principal at PCHS for 10 years and as an assistant principal at Hoboken Elementary School prior to that. She began her career in education as a science teacher at Brantley County High School in Nahunta in 1994.

She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Valdosta State University and an educational leadership degree from Nova University.
