Mildred L. Winn, 96, passed away Thursday morning, October 8, 2026, at Harborview Pierce Nursing Home following an illness of several years.

Born October 22, 1929, in Pierce County, she was a daughter of the late Archie P. and Ruth Gill Winn. She lived all her life in Jacksonville, Florida and Pierce County. She attended Patterson High School and Jones Business College in Jacksonville. She was known for her dedication to any task she undertook, always giving 100 percent effort to everything she did. She also enjoyed sharing her talents with others, especially her homemade cream corn, which she picked, cut the kernels off the cob, blanched and froze to share, as well as her delicious yearly fruitcakes.

She lived in Jacksonville for 55 years before returning to Pierce County in 2006. She retired as a supervisor in the home service agency department from Independent Life Insurance Company after 30 years of service. Even after retirement, she remained active, working alongside her niece, Margie, in the house rental business in Jacksonville until her return to Pierce County.

She was a longtime and faithful member of New Home Primitive Baptist Church near Offerman, and when she became the church’s last remaining member, the church closed, and she transferred her membership to Enon Primitive Baptist Church near Blackshear. She truly enjoyed worshipping and fellowshipping with her fellow members.

She was a poet of sorts...she wrote many poems and could recite riddles and old-time sayings from her sharp memory. One of her favorites was “if the window is up, she wants it down; if it is down, she wants it up”.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, J.R. Winn, Archie Jr. Winn and Leo Winn; four sisters, Irma Johnson, Hazel Roberson, her twin sister, Mary Rozier, and Ida Mae Walker and several nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her caregivers for the last several years prior to her move to the nursing home, including her nieces, Joanne Adams and Nancy Allen; her niece and nephew-in-law, Shirley and Joe Thigpen; her nephew, Irvin L. Rozier; and numerous beloved nieces, great-nieces, great-great-nieces, great-great-great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, great-great-nephews, great-great-great-nephews, and many cousins from the Winn and Gill families.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, from the New Home Primitive Baptist Church near Offerman.

Interment will follow in the New Home Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Home Cemetery Fund and Enon Primitive Baptist Church.

The family extends its heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Heartland Hospice, Harborview Satilla and Harborview Pierce Nursing Home for the care and compassion shown to our precious Aunt Mill.
