Denise Barnes Herrin, 65, passed away peacefully Monday morning, September 28, 2026, at Baptist Village Retirement Communities in Waycross, after an extended illness.
She was born February 15, 1961 in Waycross where she lived all her life. She was employed from an early age at J.C. Penny, and she worked there for many years. She retired from the Georgia Department of Agriculture as a meat inspector and she was affiliated with the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, W. D. Barnes; her mother, Rachel Barnes Martin and her sister, Sue Barnes.
Survivors include Shane Barnes (wife Krystal), Though born a nephew, Shane was raised from a young age as a beloved son in every way that truly matters; along with their children Klara and Kane; her brother, Marlon Kelley (wife Connie); her sister, Belinda Gilliard (husband Tony); very special friends, Ritchie Herrin and Jimmie Rae Roberts and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
She dearly loved all her precious dogs, and she was a good mama to them.

A memorial visitation was held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, October 3, at Music Funeral Home in Waycross.
Music Funeral Home of Waycross was in charge of arrangements.
