Brooks named Teacher of Year, Raulerson chosen Staffer of Year

Ware County Schools recently honored its 2026-27 Teachers of the Year and Support Staff of the Year during a special pregame ceremony prior to Ware County High’s home football game against Groves in Memorial Stadium.

Among those honored were District Teacher of the Year Jenna Brooks and District Support Staff of the Year Scott Raulerson, who received recognition from Ware County Schools Supt. Dr. Lynn Barber.

The school district also recognized Waycross Middle School Principal David Hitt as recipient of the inaugural Leader of the Year, which will be presented annually along with the Teacher and Support Staff Member awards.

Brooks will represent Ware County in the competition for Georgia Teacher of the Year later this school year. The three were first recognized in July at a meeting of the Ware County Board of Education.

Representatives from schools and departments throughout the district gathered on the field, where they were recognized before students, families, colleagues and members of the Waycross-Ware County community.

The annual Teacher of the Year, Support Staff of the Year and now Leader of the Year recognitions celebrate employees who demonstrate outstanding dedication to their schools, colleagues, and students.

Together, the year’s honorees represent the many different people and roles required to support the education of Ware County students.

Following the ceremony, Layne’s provided a meal for the honorees, adding to the evening’s celebration. Ware County Schools also thanked Layne’s for its generosity and continued support of the school community.
