This year’s annual Homecoming Parade along Main Street in Blackshear took place September 28 with a larger turn out of spectators than the previous year.
The theme for this year’s festivities is “Big City Lights, Bear Country Pride”.
The parade proceeded uninterrupted from Emmanuel Baptist Church to the railroad crossing in the historic downtown area. There the parade had to wait until a 12,000 foot CSX train rumbled through town before resuming its progress toward the parade’s customary finish at the Board of Education offices near Tiger Field.
Favorably cool weather and clear skies marked the event, which ended with plenty of daylight left for spectators to make their way home just as the “big city lights” came on along Main Street. Plenty of hometown “Bear country pride’ was on display and an abundance of candy was tossed out to clusters of eager kids.
The 2026-2027 Homecoming Queen will be crowned at half-time of this Friday night’s football game vs. Beach High School of Savannah. The Homecoming dance will begin after the game.
