Well known local farmer Monroe Miles passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22. He was 72.
Miles was a life-long farmer and working the land was his calling in life. Miles had an ext ensive farming operation in the county.
In addition to farming, he also worked with the U.S. Postal Service and Littlefield Construction.
He was a devoted family man, enjoyed good food and frequented many of Pierce County’s local restaurants. He also loved watching westerns, checking the cows and loving on his granddaughter, Lilah Kate Miles.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, from the First Baptist Church in Blackshear.

James Monroe Miles, 72, of Blackshear, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at St Vincent’s Riverside in Jacksonville, Florida following an illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Blackshear, August 7, 1954, to John Millender and Katie Smith Miles. He lived a life rooted in faith, family, and farming. He was a hardworking farmer who found joy in the simple things in life. Although farming was an important part of who he was and his family legacy, Monroe was fond of the memories and lifelong friendships he made working with the U.S. Postal Service and Littlefield Construction.
Family was always his greatest pride and joy. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and loyal friend. He taught his family the value of hard work, honesty, tradition and preservation. His steady presence, warm smile, humor and quiet wisdom will be deeply missed.
He enjoyed good food and frequented many of Pierce counties local restaurants. He also loved watching his westerns, checking the cows and loving on his granddaughter, Lilah Kate Miles. Some of his happiest moments were spent gathered around the table with his family, sharing stories and watching his children and grandchild grow and prosper.
Survivors include his sister, Lisa (Scott) Register, Adel; his brother, John Dale (Nell) Miles, Blythe Island; his children, Amber Miles, Richmond Hill and Landon (Marah) Miles, Blackshear; his granddaughter, Lilah Kate Miles and many other relatives and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Dinah Sue Steedley Miles; a sister, Kay Lane Perritt and a brother, Sam Miles.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, from the First Baptist Church in Blackshear with the Rev. Dr. Bill Young officiating.
Interment followed in the Blackshear Cemetery.
Members of the Blackshear High School Class of 1972 served as honorary pallbearers along with the Moody Family, the Carter Family, Bobby Taylor, Dusty Godwin, Eddie Beverly and John Earl Strickland.
