Pierce County’s volleyball Lady Bears captured five wins in six matches to reach the 20-win plateau for the fifth consecutive season.
The Lady Bears (22-10 overall, 6-0 Region 3-AAA) split Monday, September 21 at Southeast Bulloch beating the host Lady Yellow Jackets 25-12, 25-15. PCHS fell to Faith Christian 25-23, 22-25, 1614.
Pierce County swept Thomas County Central and Wayne County at home Tuesday, September 22. The Lady Bears knocked off TCC 25-20, 25-12 and outlasted Wayne County 25-21, 15-25, 1513.
PCHS wrapped up the busy week with a home sweep Thursday, September 24 of region foe Tattnall County and Tift County. The Lady Bears posted a 25-10, 25-17 win against the Lady Warriors. They rallied for a 25-27, 25-14, 15-11 win over the Lady Blue Devils.
Pierce County wraps up the regular season this week. West Laurens and Wayne County visited Tuesday night, September 29. Toombs County and Southeast Bulloch come to town Thursday, October 1 for Senior Night. Jayvee action starts at 4 p.m., with varsity action set for 5 p.m.
PCHS will host the region semifinals and finals Saturday, October 10. The semifinal matches will start at 10 a.m., with the championship and consolation matches scheduled to start 30 minutes after the end of the semifinal round.
Faith Christ...25-22-16 Lady Bears....23-25-14 BROOKLET — PCHS committed 15 services errors proving costly in the loss to Faith Baptist Christian.
Ansley Hutcheson and Daisy Thigpen recorded 13 and 12 assists respectively. Thigpen led the team with 13 digs. She was followed by Isabella Marx with 11 digs.
Marx topped the team with nine kills. Azalea Mobley and Zayleigh Raithel were credited with eight kills apiece.
Lady Bears........25-25 SEB ...................12-15 BROOKLET — The Lady Bears bounced back in the second match to knock off Southeast Bulloch.
Marx had eight kills and seven digs to lead the team. Mollie Carter was second in kills with five.
Hutcheson and Caroline Davis finished with seven assists and six assists respectively. Gracie Brewer was second in digs with five.
Lady Bears........25-25 TCC...................20-12 BEARVILLE — Pierce County avenged an earlier loss to the Lady Yellow Jackets receiving strong net play and solid defensive performances.
Hutcheson had a teamhigh 12 assists with Thigpen recording nine assists. Heidi Hodges recorded a team-leading seven digs while Carter followed with five.
Marx topped the team with seven kills. Mobley and Carter were next with five apiece.
Lady Bears.....25-15-15 Wayne Co. .....21-25-13 BEARVILLE — PCHS held off the challenge of Wayne County to escape with a third set victory.
Hutcheson paced the team with 12 assists. Addyson Echols was next with seven.
Marx had a team-high 10 kills. Carter was second with five.
Lady Bears........25-25 Tattnall Co.........10-17 BEARVILLE — The Lady Bears had little trouble in turning back Tattnall County.
Thigpen topped the team in assists with 11. Hutcheson recorded a team-high five digs.
Marx and Mobley led the team with five kills and four kills respectively.
Lady Bears ....25-25-15 Tift County.....27-14-11 BEARVILLE — Pierce County spotted Tift County a one-set lead before rallying for the win.
Marx led the team with 14 kills. Mobley was next with eight.
Hodges led the way with 13 digs. Brewer and Marx were credited with 11 and 10 respectively.
