Wounded Waycross veteran Robert Livingston received an allterrain trackchair at the football game Saturday, September 19 between Georgia Tech and Mercer through a partnership between Kappa Alpha Order social fraternity and national non-profit organization The Independence Fund.
The presentation took place at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field in Atlanta. Livingston was recognized during the
game.
KA’s Alpha Sigma Chapter at Tech and the Kappa Chapter at Mercer supported the effort behind Livingston's trackchair presentation.
Livingston served nearly 10 years in the U.S. Navy before medically retiring in 1995. After retiring from the military, he continued serving the Veteran community as a biomedical equipment technician with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for another 10 years. His mobility challenges eventually required him to retire from that position in 2008. Since then, Livingston has endured multiple hospitalizations, surgeries, and infections affecting his legs and has recently lost the use of both legs.

Pain, mobility limitations, and transportation barriers have made it increasingly difficult for Livingston to attend family gatherings, participate in church and community activities, or leave his home.
He lives in Waycross with his wife and Caregiver Susan, and their daughter, Faith. Before his mobility declined, Livingston enjoyed golf and remained active in his church and community.
An all-terrain trackchair will help him spend more time outdoors with family and friends, regain greater freedom beyond his home, and reconnect with the people and activities that bring fulfillment to his life.
Since 2016, KA chapters nationwide have partnered with The Independence Fund to support wounded Veterans through the organization's Mobility Program. Their efforts have raised more than $1.4 million to provide life-changing mobility devices such as all-terrain trackchairs.
All-terrain trackchairs have been a cornerstone of The Independence Fund's Mobility Program since 2007. To date, the organization has provided more than 2,700 of the devices to wounded, injured, and ill veterans nationwide.
