Williams Heights Elementary fifth-grader Mia Williams (center) recently addressed members of the Delta Zeta Chapter of the National Educational Sorority Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., about her experience with sickle cell anemia as part of National Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness month in September. Information on the disease was presented by the chapter’s first vice president, Karen Ethridge while Washington delivered a very informative and impressive update of her experience with the disease. Members wore burgundy attire and T-shirts with the words “I Wear Burgundy for Mia’in support of the student, who’s pictured with Delta Zeta Chapter members after her address including (front, l-r) Rosetta Robinson, Dr. Linda Perry-Simpson, Washington, Ethridge, and Dorothy Character; and (back l-r) Dr. Brenda Spearman, Rosemary Taylor, Carol Reed, Minnie Goettie, Ronzie Patterson and Krystal Johnson.
