The river bass bite is starting to fire up. Some nice fish have been caught. The fish are starting to change into their fall pattern.
River gauges as of Thursday, September 17:
• Doctortown on the Altamaha – 2.7 feet and falling
• Lumber City on the Ocmulgee – 0.6 feet and falling
• Clyo on the Savannah – 3.2 feet and falling
• Statenville on the Alapaha – 3.1 feet and falling
• Alapaha on the Alapaha – 5.6 feet and rising
• Waycross on the Satilla – 6.4 feet and falling
• Atkinson on the Satilla – 6.1 feet and falling
• Quitman on the Withlacoochee – 2.7 feet and falling
• Macclenny on the St. Marys – 3.8 feet and falling
• Fargo on the Suwannee – 3.3 feet and falling
Altamaha River – Seth Carter fished with Austin Hill and they caught around 25 bass with and 17 weighing over three pounds. Their 5 biggest bass weighed 18 pounds.
I fished the river and caught around 30 bass. I had around 20 pounds for my top five. The biggest one of the trip weighed six pounds.
Two anglers caught a small mess of bass on the lower river.
Justin Harrison and his dad fished the middle river and landed 16 nice bass. They used black Zoom Trick Worms and a white Berkeley Choppo to fool their fish.
Lakes and Ponds – Jimmy Zinker fished at Orange Lake and reported he caught 50 bass. Two of them were in the 4-lb. class. He used buzzbaits, spooks, and a Muskie Jitterbug.
Garrett Berry fished at Lake Blackshear and reported he caught around 15 nice-sized bass. His top five biggest bass weighed about 24 pounds. He tossed urchin style baits, crankbaits, and stick baits to fool them. Garrett also mentioned the bass were congregated in shallow water.
Captain Bert Deener fished at Banks Lake and caught and released six fish total, including a giant bluegill, a 17-inch pickerel, and four bowfin (biggest one weighed 7 lbs., 1 oz.). He lost a giant bowfin bigger than the one he caught. The fish ate Satilla Spins and Dura-Spins.

Saltwater – Captain Greg Hildreth fished the Saint Simons area and landed around 40 trout (10-12 were keepers). He caught the fish by using live shrimp under a float.
Captain Greg said he has fished the last few days and the high winds have shut down the trout bite.
