“When good men (and women) act, lives are saved.”
This general truth applies to the donation of life-sustaining blood. There is hardly a greater crisis today than the shortage in the emergency supply of lifesaving blood.
“This is a problem that could be corrected so simply,' said Gary Griffin, a member of the Waycross Area Blood Drive Volunteers. “If only a few people would give blood, there would be no shortage. However, only about three percent of the population are blood donors.”
The next monthly blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., for Monday, Sept. 28, at the Waycross Exchange Club meeting hall, 2401 Knight Avenue.
'If you want to be part of the solution, please come and give,' Griffin said. “The blood supply crisis has existed for years and has grown worse since Covid.”
Donors may walk in or donate after making appointment by visiting Red-CrossBlood.org and enter: Waycross.
Robbie Roberson Ford, a loyal supporter of the local community blood drive, is the sponsor of Monday's drive.
“Robbie and Roman have been generous in helping us through the many years,” Griffin said. “Their contribution means there will be hundreds of dollars in cash door prize giveaways to the donors Monday.”
Griffin said other donor door prizes include Captain Joe's and Sanders Honey gift cards. Waycross Coca-Cola and Domino’s Pizza are supplying food and beverages for donors.
