The Pierce County Industrial Park has earned its Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development (GRAD)” certification with an additional “Select” status.
The designation was announced last week by Pierce County Industrial and Building Authority (IDBA), in cooperation with the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD).
The GRAD Certification program helps establish a portfolio of pre-qualified industrial sites across Georgia which are “shovel ready” for new business and facilities to establish themselves.
The industrial park’s new “GRAD Select” classification provides an additional seal of approval that can make it especially attractive for future industrial development. The Pierce location is one of only 20 across the state to feature rail access.
“We are thrilled that the Pierce County Industrial Rail Park has been approved as a GRAD Select site. We believe this is one of the premier sites in the state that lies within one of the premier communities in our area,” said IDBA Executive Director Blake James.
The Pierce County Industrial Rail Park site is familiar to most local residents, located directly off U.S. Highway 84 and immediately identifiable by new signage installed this year. The site boasts approximately 360 acres with an existing rail spur off the CSX mainline with six-days-a-week rail service. The site is less than 50 miles from the coastal Interstate Highway system and the Port of Brunswick.

To qualify for GRAD status, a site must meet the program’s due diligence standards, be reviewed by a third party and earn the final approval of a board of advisors comprised of public and private sector economic development professionals. The GRAD Select status indicates a site such as Pierce’s industrial park has met or exceeds even more rigorous certification requirements.
