NAHUNTA — Nahunta’s City Council discussed the FY2026 millage during its Monday night monthly meeting.

The millage rate was discussed at the September 14 meeting, but no decision was made on whether to leave it the same or use the rollback which will stand at 12.485.

If an increase occurs, it would be 11.14 percent. City Clerk Angie Wirth said that it is not the city itself that would increase.

“It is the evaluation of people’s homes,” Wirth said.

The council approved the Watershed Protection Plan for the City of Nahunta. The plan has a tax-owner permit and it has been finalized.

The council also heard and approved the Noise ordinance with the 14101’s revised first reading. Details of the reading consist of items such as the purpose being for the health and safety of the community, defining excessive noise, which means any sound unreasonably loud, and Quiet Hours, which will be a period between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Wirth mentioned the ordinance itself was not signed and dated.

“The Municode will not put it in our Code of Ordinances,” Wirth said. “I have created an ordinance and the City Attorney has revised it.”

The council approved a new air conditioning unit for the inside/outside courtroom side of City Hall.

The council members were told the current unit is 15 years old. The estimate for a replacement is between $8,500 and $9,000.

The council voted to go with Brantley Heating and Air to install the new unit.

Council members approved the purchase of a new sewer jetter from Jetter Depot. Public Works’ Jeremy Ryan gave the details as to why a new one was needed.

“It will help the city clear out sewer lines manhole- to-manhole,” Ryan said. “It will also help to clean out culvert pipes.”

The council went with Jetter Depot which provided the best bid. The jetter itself will come with accessories. The total costs is $68,425.81.

Police Chief Brad Todd gave monthly the Nahunta Police Department report for August.

There were 489 E911 calls; 217 traffic stops; 40 citations issued; 177 warnings issued; zero incident reports filed and three accident reports filed.

Ryan stated that there were 235 work orders in the Public Works monthly report. He added the new sewer plant is “running really well.”

The next Nahunta City Council Meeting will be Monday, October 5 at 6 p.m. at the Nahunta City Hall.
