Queen, King crowned by 2025 winners
CANEY BAY – Ms. Lydia Anderson and Mr. Hayze Evans were crowned Brantley County High School’s 2026 Homecoming Queen and King during a festive halftime ceremony Friday night in the Herons’ eventual 7-6 victory over Islands.
The annual beloved tradition brought together students, families, alumni, and the entire Heron community. Anderson, a senior known for her leadership, her love of softball, and her desire to inspire younger students, received thunderous applause as she accepted the crown.
Returning to crown the new queen was 2025 Homecoming Queen Gina Cavagnaro, now attending Georgia Southern University.
Anderson, who plans to pursue a teaching degree and “spread her ministry to all the young minds,” accepted the honor with grace and enthusiasm.
The stadium erupted in cheers as Mr. Hayze Evans was named the 2026 Homecoming King. Evans, a standout athlete and avid reader, proudly represented the senior class and the Heron spirit.
The crowd welcomed back 2025 Homecoming King Drake Stalvey, who returned to crown this year’s king. Special appreciation was extended to Mr. Stuart Thrift and the Engineering Department for 3D-printing the king’s crown.
The evening began with a warm welcome on behalf of Brantley County High School and the Edge Yearbook staff, recognizing the many groups who contributed to the success of Homecoming Week. BCHS administration, faculty, staff, the Event Planning Team, the Heron Pride Marching Band, cheerleaders, the AFJROTC Saber Team, and the student body were all thanked for their dedication and teamwork.
The 2026 Homecoming Court was introduced with a blend of humor, personality, and pride.
The 2027 Senior Class court was represented by Klara Barnes, Amelia Ann Blount, Savannah Carroll, Avery Crews, and Mary Hall and Anderson. Each was introduced with stories showcasing their personalities, talents and future aspirations. From Anderson’s love of hibachi to Blount’s “impressively good” sweeping skills, each introduction reflected the individuality and spirit of the BCHS senior class.
Freshmen Briley Dyches and Addisyn Grafford, sophomores Dae Gilbert and Layla Lawrence, and juniors Khloe Chanclor and Brianna Johns were honored for their involvement in sports, youth groups, academic clubs, and community activities. Their introductions highlighted fun facts, friendships, and the pride they feel in being part of the Heron family.
Senior representatives vying for King included Aiden Altman, Gaven Grafford, Aiden Kratzer, Jesus Rios, Rylee Young and Evans — each escorted by family and celebrated for their accomplishments in athletics, band, academic clubs, and leadership roles.
And as the ceremony concluded, one sentiment echoed across the stadium: “It’s a great day to be a Heron.”
