Brantley County Lady Heron softball team was swept in a Region 3AAA series by topranked Appling County.
The Lady Herons (7-4 overall, 2-3 region), who entered the week ranked ninth by Score-Atlanta, managed just one run in the twogame showdown with the unbeaten Lady Pirates (16-0, 8-0).
BCHS lost 8-0 in Game 1 Tuesday, September 15 at home and 7-1 in Game 2 Thursday, September 17 in Baxley.
The Lady Herons, who fell out of the rankings released this week, hosted seventh-ranked Toombs County Tuesday (September 22) and travel Thursday, September 24 to Lyons.
Brantley County travels Saturday, September 26 to Jesup to face Class 5A Wayne County at 10 a.m. and St. Vincent’s at 12:30 p.m. The Lady Herons got to Camden County Monday, September 28 for a 6 p.m. matchup and to Reidsville Tuesday, September 29 for a region matchup with Tattnall County Tuesday, September 29.
No. 1 Appling Co....8 No. 9 Lady Herons 0 CANEY BAY — Appling County opened and closed the game with a pair of three-run innings and scored twice in the fourth to beat the Lady Herons.
A two-run double followed two errors to start the game for a quick 2-0 lead against Mary Hall (7 IP, 12 H, 8 R, 0 ER, 2 K, 3 BB, 1 WP). The Lady Pirates also got a two-out solo homer before the inning ended.
A steal of home and a two-out, run-scoring did the damage in the fourth extending the lead to 5-0.
Appling County got a one-out, bases loaded single and a two-run single in a three-pitch sequence to score three runs in the seventh.
The Lady Herons managed three hits with two coming in the second on a double by Addisyn Grafford (1-for-3) and a single by Kynli Flowers (1-for-3). Lydia Anderson (1-for-3) singled in the sixth.

BAXLEY — The Lady Pirates used a five-run second inning to take control in beating BCHS.
Appling County scored on a bases loaded fielder’s choice and a grandslam homer for its runs off Edie Lowther (6 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 2 K, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP).
The Lady Pirates extended the lead to 7-0 with two runs in the fifth, both on the second of consecutive errors.
BCHS averted the shutout with a run in the seventh on a run-scoring single by Madison Walker (1-for-3) plating Caiden Jones (1-for-3), who started the inning with a base hit.
The Lady Herons had just two hits entering the seventh. Grafford (1-2) singled with one out in the second and Riley Story singled with two outs in the sixth ending a stretch of 10 consecutive batters retired.
