BCHS cross-country teams run at Long Co., Carrollton

LUDOWICI — Brantley County’s Herons cross-country team placed fifth here Saturday in the fifth annual Blue Tide Run hosted by Long County.

Vidalia won the September 5 seven-team event scoring 57 points. The Indians had three runners finishing in the top four spots.

Camden County (73), host Long County (81), Tattnall County (86), Brantley County (92), Islands (125) and First Presbyterian Day School (140) rounded out the field.

The Lady Herons were represented by freshman Amber Capps, who finished 37th in the field of 38 runners with a time of 30:41.59. The winning time was 21:48.

Vidalia also captured the five-team girls’ meet.

Brantley County’s Brayden Middleton clocked a sixth-place finish with a time of 18:43.21 in the field of 69 runners in the boys’ event. Vidalia’s Wyatt Vassey set the pace finishing with a time of 18:03.27.

Following Brayden Middleton was Grant Middleton, who finished 12th with a time of 19:23.37. Rounding out the team scoring was Jace Hunnicut (22nd; 19:43.93), Hayze Evans (23rd; 19:49.93) and Cason Anderson (34th; 20:51.83).

Also competing were Max Herrin (49th; 21:47.68), Carter Lentz (58th; 22:25.49), Tyler Kelly (59th; 22:29.90), Brett Crews (65th; 23:16.40) and Steven Rios (66th; 23:25.55).

OrthoWest Inv.

CARROLLTON — BCHS competed Saturday, September 12 in the OrthoWest Invitational hosted by Carrollton High School on the state meet course.

The Lady Herons finished 17th in the 21-team 1A-4A girls’ race with the Herons placing 27th in the 27-team Championship boys’ division.

Dawson County won the girls’ meet with 63 points. Rounding out the Top 10 were Pickens (99), Bremen (125), West Laurens (145), Atlanta Classical Academy 179, Oconee County (183), Model (215), Mary Persons (221), East Jackson (226) and Armuchee (256).

The rest of the field included Vidalia (286), Calhoun (301), Holy Innocents’ (304), Savannah Christian (367), Westminster (406), Columbus (437), Brantley County (451), Barrow Arts & Sciences Academy (459), KIPP Atlanta Collegiate (496), North Springs (509) and Temple (549).

The Lady Herons were led by the 54th-place showing of Klara Barnes, who posted a time of 26:39.10 in the field of 200 runners. The winning time was 20:59.25.

Following Barnes were Julia Miller (95th; 28:52.42), Jaelynn Evans (119th; 30:11.92), Aubree Purvis (166th; 34:14.90) and Amber Capps (181st; 35:39.56).

Harrison captured the boys’ title edging out North Paulding by three points, 140-143. Marietta (150), Westminster (156), Creekview (177), Starrs Mill (208), Carrollton (214), Decatur (248), Jackson County (280) and Bleckley County (285) rounded out the Top 10.

Finishing 11-20 were Northgate (340), McIntosh (343), Benedictine High School (353), Oconee County (357), Woodward Academy (377), Jefferson (444), Etowah (445), Benedictine (Savannah; 463), Columbus (463) and Cartersville (499).

The final seven schools were LaGrange (542), Newnan (596), Prince Avenue Christian (603), Dunwoody (606), Central- Carroll (643), Woodstock (754) and Brantley County (817).

Brayden Middleton paced the Herons finishing 147th in the field of 226 runners with a time of 20:17.61. The winning time was 16:40.48.

Following Middleton were Hayze Evans (190th; 2:30.31), Jace Hunnicutt (196th; 21:42.24), Cason Anderson (209th; 23:29.80), Max Herrin (216th; 24.05.62), Carter Lentz (219th; 26:34.14) and Cayson Lentz (221st; 29:39.20).
