The Okefenokee Alliance for the Homeless (OATH), known throughout the community for its work serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness and housing instability, is entering a new chapter as OATH Recovery, Inc.
The organization said in its newsletter the new name reflects the growth of the organization and a broader commitment to helping individuals and families overcome the many challenges that can stand between them and long-term stability. While housing and homelessness services remain an important part of the organization’s work, OATH Recovery is expanding its focus on recovery from substance use disorder, connection to resources, and whole-person support.
OATH Recovery serves individuals and families throughout Ware, Pierce, and Brantley counties. The organization recognizes that homelessness, substance use, mental health challenges, financial hardship, and other barriers are often interconnected.
OATH Recovery seeks to meet people where they are and help them identify an avenue toward stability, recovery, and self-sufficiency. Services and support available through OATH Recovery include:
• Housing assistance and housing-stability planning;
• Recovery support and connection to substance use disorder services;
• Connection to individual and group counseling and behavioral health services; • Assistance connecting with healthcare and other community resources;
• Employment and training resources;
• Assistance accessing benefits and supportive services;
• Transportation coordination and other recovery supports;
• Referrals and individualized care coordination;
• Advocacy and ongoing support for individuals and families working toward greater stability.
OATH was created in 2017 to fill the service gap that existed for homeless families in Brantley, Pierce, and Ware Counties. The organization evolved from the work of a grassroots task force established by the Ware Children's Initiative, a Georgia Family Connection collaborative in January 2017.
The following year, OATH was incorporated as a non-profit corporation and also designated as a State of Hope by the Georgia Department of Children and Family Services.
