LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. — It is with great sadness that the family of Barry Tyre Murray, 72, Lookout Mountain, Ga., announces his passing on August 29, 2026, at Hospice Care Center, Tenn., after a short illness.
Murray was born in Waycross on April 12, 1954, to Frank M. Murray and Betty Tyre Murray. He spent his childhood and most of his adult life in Waycross, having graduated from Ware County High School in 1972, where he was an athletic star in several sports. He went to Brewton-Parker College for a short time before joining the National Guard and leaving college to join his family business, Murray Plumbing, as a master plumber.
Murray served many families in Waycross before a traumatic brain injury in 1994, ended his career much too early. He loved hunting on his parents land at Dover’s Bluff and hunting at various hunting clubs around Ware County. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf with friends, and watching the University of Georgia Bulldogs. Murray also loved to sit in the sun at Fernandina Beach, Fla.
He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Murray leaves behind his loving and caring wife, Sandra Harris Murray; a daughter, Katie Roman (Michael); and grandchildren Charlie Roman and Caroline Roman; his stepdaughter, Amy B. Courdin (Tres); and step grandchildren, Luke Courdin and Oliver Courdin. His grandchildren lovingly called him “PapaBear.”
Also surviving are a close nephew, Matt Murray (Rebecca); and great nieces, Maddy and Lily Kate; a brother, Frank Murray, Jr. (Gloria); and a niece, Molly Murray.
Murray was preceded in death by his parents, Frank, Sr., and Betty Murray; and many uncles and aunts, all of whom he adored.
No service is planned in Waycross.
