Okefenokee Swamp Park celebrates 80 years of stewardship, education, and outdoor recreation with a Field Day, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 10 at the park, 5700 Okefenokee Swamp Park Road. The free community family-friendly gathering highlights efforts to inspire curiosity, wonder, and meaningful connections in the largest blackwater wetland in North America. The park was designated a World Heritage Site earlier this year by UNESCO, making it the only one in Georgia, and among just a handful in the United States. The event will include guided walks, wildlife education, hands-on learning, prescribed fire education, swamp history displays, and traditional crafts and skills. It’s a special celebration and an opportunity to learn more about the Okefenokee, a nearly half-million-acre blackwater swamp.
