WCHS JV Gators 9th; Bears place 9th, Lady Bears 10th
HAZLEHURST — Ware County and Pierce County competed here Thursday in the Southern Georgia XC Championship hosted by Jeff Davis.
The Gators finished eighth September 10 in the 21-team boys’ meet with the JV Gators posting a ninth-place showing in their 11-team meet. The Lady Gators were represented by three participants in the girls’ 15-team meet.
PCHS’s Lady Bears were 10th while the Bears were ninth.
Savannah Arts Academy ran away from the field for a sweep of the varsity action. The Panthers’ JV squad also posted a first-place win.
In the girls’ meet, SAA finished with 18 points with all five runners for the team score finishing sixth or better. The Lady Panthers were followed by host Jeff Davis (79), Brunswick (83), Coffee (99), Camden County (147), Metter (205), Appling County (224), Long County (230), Tattnall County (246), PCHS (278), Cook (289), Swainsboro (349), Bacon County (370), Atkinson County (392) and Berrien (397).
Savannah Arts totaled 67 points in the boys’ meet. Finishing out the Top 10 boys were Coffee (102), Brunswick (117), Jeff Davis (127), Long County (131), Camden County (225), Atkinson County (233), Ware County (236), PCHS (242) and Bradwell Institute (262).
Rounding out the field were Tattnall County (273), Appling County (298), Cook (315), Wayne County (358), Berrien (407), Metter (423), Bryan County (456), Bacon County (495), Echols County (548), Swainsboro (549) and Scintilla Charter Academy of Valdosta (641).
SAA finished with 29 points in winning the JV boys’ event with all five runners posting Top 10 finishes. Following the Panthers were Bleckley County (43), Coffee (85), Long County (138), Brunswick (145), Tattnall County (174), Atkinson County (196), Cook (221), Ware County (230), Echols County (271) and Bacon County (298).
Girls’ meet
Ware County’s Yaneli Martinez finished sixth in the field of 124 runners posting a time of 22:16.10. The winning time was 19:58.30.
Following Martinez were Faith Williams (50th; 28:04.30) and Alexa Valesqez (92nd; 32:42.80).
Selah Griffis led the Lady Bears placing 35th with a time of 26:28.70. She was followed by Addison Taylor (40th; 27:09.80), Baylee Rose Tippins (77th; 30:28.50), Marlie Ryals (83rd; 31:19.30) and Addison Folette (97th; 33:42.80).
Boys’ meet
Damari Bennett top the Gators’ contingent with a 12th-place finish in the field of 165 participants clocking a time of 19:29. The winning time was 17:32.90.
Following Bennett were Brayten Hood (48th; 21:23.80), Lorenzo Harris (59th; 21:50.60), Taishaun Muchinson (61st; 21:55.70), Giovanni Solorio (64th; 22:04.50), Brock Payne (76th; 22:30.40), Seth King (141st; 27:16.60) and Easton Spikes (154th; 30:05.80).
PCHS was paced by Brandon Yepes, who placed 27th with a time of 20:29.80. Running behind Yepes was Jared Watson (31st; 20:44.40), Brooks Roberson (50th; 21:27.20), Breck Benton (67th; 22:20.30), Cooper Johnson (75th; 22:29.80), Samuel Carrillo (90th; 22:59.30) and Coleman Lee (102nd; 23:40.60).
Jayvee boys
Ashton Stormant led the JV Gators with a time of 22:09.20 placing 12th in the field of 97 runners. The winning time was 19:08.80.
Trailing Stormant were Joel Gaona (48th; 26:13), Silas Mixon (58th; 26:57.30), Colton Landrum (70th; 28:54.10) and T.J. Burse (84th; 30:42.50).
