The Pierce County Foundation for Excellence in Education, Inc. has three scholarships available to those continuing their education.
There are three awards given by the foundation, which will be distributed in December.
The first scholarship is the Collegiate Scholarship Award. This is an opportunity for any Pierce County High School graduate who has completed one or more years of college to be awarded a $500 scholarship to financially assist them in their pursuit of an undergraduate college degree.
Applicants should attach a certified copy of their current transcript, reflecting a 3.0 grade point average or higher, list any extracurricular and/or work experience and list any extracurricular and/or work experiences during their college career.
Applicants will also need to write and attach an essay of no more than 250 words explaining how $500 would help them achieve their goals.
The second scholarship is the Classified to Certified Scholarship Award. This is an opportunity for any Pierce County classified employee who wishes to become a certified teacher to be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to financially assist them in their pursuit of an undergraduate college degree. Two of these scholarships will be awarded this year.
Applicants will follow a similar process to the Collegiate Scholarship Award by attaching a certified copy of your current transcript reflecting a 3.0 GPA or higher or a letter of acceptance to a college or university.
Applicants will list any extracurricular involvement in community, school or volunteer organizations or work experience. They will also write and attach an essay of no more than 250 words explaining how $1,000 would help you achieve your college goals.
The essay portion of both scholarship applications should be typed in no smaller than 12 pt. font and double-spaced.
The final opportunity is the Teacher Innovator Award. This is a chance for a Pierce County educator to be awarded $500 for a project. One award will be granted to a teacher at each Pierce County School. A teacher is eligible to receive an award no more than once every two years.
Applicants should provide a project description and plan of action limited to one typed page. The project must be pre-approved by the school’s administrator before submitting the proposal.
The deadline for submission for all three awards is October 9. No late entries will be considered.
