HAZLEHURST — Pierce County competed here Thursday in the Southern Georgia XC Championship hosted by Jeff Davis.
The Lady Bears placed 10th in the September 10, 15-team girls’ meet. The Bears finished ninth in the 21-team boys’ meet.
Savannah Arts Academy ran away from the field for a sweep of the varsity action.
In the girls’ meet, SAA finished with 18 points with all five runners finishing sixth or better. The Lady Panthers were followed by host Jeff Davis (79), Brunswick (83), Coffee (99), Camden County (147), Metter (205), Appling County (224), Long County (230), Tattnall County (246), PCHS (278), Cook (289), Swainsboro (349), Bacon County (370), Atkinson County (392) and Berrien (397).
Savannah Arts totaled 67 points in the boys’ meet. Finishing out the Top 10 boys were Coffee (102), Brunswick (117), Jeff Davis (127), Long County (131), Camden County (225), Atkinson County (233), Ware County (236), PCHS (242) and Bradwell Institute (262).
Rounding out the field were Tattnall County (273), Appling County (298), Cook (315), Wayne County (358), Berrien (407), Metter (423), Bryan County (456), Bacon County (495), Echols County (548), Swainsboro (549) and Scintilla Charter Academy of Valdosta (641).
Selah Griffis led the Lady Bears placing 35th in the field of 124 runners with a time of 26:28.70. The winning time was 19:58.30.
She was followed by Addison Taylor (40th; 27:09.80), Baylee Rose Tippins (77th; 30:28.50), Marlie Ryals (83rd; 31:19.30) and Addison Folette (97th; 33:42.80).
The Bears were paced by Brandon Yepes, who placed 27th in the field of 165 participants, with a time of 20:29.80. The winning time was 17:32.90.
Running behind Yepes was Jared Watson (31st; 20:44.40), Brooks Roberson (50th; 21:27.20), Breck Benton (67th; 22:20.30), Cooper Johnson (75th; 22:29.80), Samuel Carrillo (90th; 22:59.30) and Coleman Lee (102nd; 23:40.60).
PCHS will compete today (Wednesday, September 16) in Savannah at the Raider Invitational hosted by Savannah Christian.
