Mary Frances Yarbrough Courson, 80, of Milledgeville, formerly of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at her residence in Milledgeville.
Born in Waycross, August 31, 1946, she lived in Ware and Pierce Counties until moving to Milledgeville in 2008 to be near her daughter and granddaughter. She was a 1964 graduate of Waycross High School and went on to receive her transcriptionist degree from Waycross-Ware Tech. She worked as a transcriptionist for Satilla Regional Medical Center and went on to retire from the Satilla Regional Cancer Center. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family but had also enjoyed shopping before her health prevented it. She was a member of Black Springs Baptist Church.
She was a daughter of the late Joseph Edwin and Irene Peacock Yarbrough. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Nova Courson.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Melena and Thomas “Kell” Carpenter, Milledgeville; her sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Ted Zarkowsky, Milledgeville; her granddaughter, Kelsey Marie Carpenter; two nieces, Lisa Williams Edwards (Todd) and Leah Williams; several great-nieces and great-greatnieces along with a great- great-nephew and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.
The family kindly requests members of the Waycross High School Class of 1964 to serve as honorary pallbearers. They are asked to please meet at the funeral home by 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
