Hinson Mosley, former long-time state representative, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 1. He was 93.
Mosley was first elected in 1992 as a Democrat and later switched to the Republican Party after Republicans took control of state government in 2002. After his first election, he represented portions of Pierce County from 1993-1995 and then represented all of Pierce County from 2003 until his retirement in 2005.
Mosley had a “country boy” demeanor about him and ran under the slogan “one of you”. Underneath the “aw, shucks” demeanor, though, Mosley was known as a legislator who listened to his constituents and “got the job done.”
After leaving the legislature, Mosley represented Wayne County on the Satilla Rural Electric Membership Board.
He retired after 37 years of service at Rayonier and was a member of Odum Baptist Church and the Screven Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, from the Calvary Baptist Church in Jesup.
