Sarah Stone and family create new foundation to help others
In the midst of the darkness, the Stone family of Blackshear wants to shine the light of Jesus.
Sarah Ellington Stone is now under hospice, but she believes with all her heart the words of John 8:12 that Jesus is the light of the world.
She wants to encourage others to “go spread a little “Son’shine”.
Stone has been under hospice for about a month now and the little things, moments and time, are now big things.
It was feared young Sarah would not live to see her 19th birthday, but, by the grace of God, she reached that milestone last Thursday, Sept. 3.
In the midst of this journey, Sarah has told her parents, Pastor Mike and Andrea Stone, that she would like for her light to keep shining.
And, so, the Stones, using seed money from Sarah’s personal savings, have created the SonShine Foundation.
“Sarah’s heart is for the Gospel of Jesus to be spread through international missions and through her journey and our journey with her, she wanted something to be done to come alongside families of children with pediatric illnesses,” said Pastor Stone.
Sarah’s aim is to assist families with long term care needs.
“We have had the support of countless Christians throughout our area and a loving church family, but we know that not all families have those blessings. We want to be that blessing,” said Mrs. Stone.
The SonShine Foundation is in it’s infant stages, but has been started with a $25,000 gift from Sarah herself.
The Stones say the foundation will be a Gospel centered ministry.
The Foundation will initially come under the care of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Blackshear.
Sarah is a member of Emmanuel where her father, Pastor Stone, is the senior minister.
Donations will be accepted and plans call for the creation of a non profit corporation to help administer the foundation going forward.
In the meantime, those wishing to donate to the foundation may do so by mailing a check to The SonShine Foundation, P.O. Box 407, Blackshear, or by online giving through the church’s website at www.ebcchurch.net.
The aim of that arm of the ministry, would be to provide comfort and solace to families.
“Not every family has the support we have been blessed by God to have, “ said the Stones. “Those blessings include restaurant gift cards, hotel rooms, blankets and stuffed animals.” The Stones stress the Foundation is in Sarah’s honor and in the name of the Lord Jesus, but their family won’t be the recipients of any of the gifts.
“We want to help others. We want to spread the Gospel through a little SonShine.”
