Blackshear City Park will host a special celebration of the USA’s 250th Birthday 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, September 12.
“We invite everyone to come and celebrate with us,” said Bethany Strickland, Blackshear’s Better Hometown Manager. Strickland said the concept for the observance will blend a celebration of America’s 250th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.
The event will feature a patriotic bicycle and golf cart parade beginning at 9 a.m. Line-up begins at First Baptist Church on Main Street and will travel to the Blackshear City Park.
Everyone is encouraged to decorate their bicycles and golf carts in patriotic colors. There are no signup forms and participation is free. The Pierce County Sound of Silver Band will lead the procession down Main Street.
Once at the park, a wide variety of activities are planned, including music, food, people dressed as patriotic historical figures and the unveiling of the community’s patriotic mosaic.
“It will be really fun,” said Strickland. “We invite everyone to come and invite your friends and neighbors. Everyone is encouraged to dress up in red, white and blue patriotic attire.”
