A tanker truck overturned shortly before 8 a.m. September 3 at the intersection of Plant and Carswell Avenues interrupting traffic for nearly two hours.

Waycross Police Department Patrol Section Capt. Benji Hersey said the truck, property of Bulk Environmental and Industrial, LLC, was turning left off Plant heading into the underpass.

As the vehicle reached the opening to proceed onto Memorial Drive, its load of waste water shifted causing the truck to topple on its right side blocking the southbound lanes, Capt. Hersey said.

The driver, James Milton, 47, of Screven, Ga., was taken by Ware EMS to Memorial Satilla Health complaining of neck pain. He was treated there for minor injuries and released shortly after, Hersey said.

Traffic was restored about 9:50 a.m. after removal of the vehicle.

Capt. Hersey said the truck was carrying runoff water from a local landfill at the time of the accident. Nothing hazardous was contained in the tanker, he said.
