WCHS, PCHS XC run in Jesup

JESUP – Ware County’s Gators placed eighth while Pierce County’s Lady Bears and Bears finished sixth here Thursday in the Wayne County Invitational cross-country meet.

The Gators totaled 155 points in the eightteam boys’ meet September 4. Glynn Academy ran away from the field scoring 25 points. The Red Terrors were followed by Effingham County (86), Brunswick (87), Toombs County (117), Atkinson County (137), Pierce County (151), host Wayne County (152) and Ware County.

Glynn Academy’s Lady Terrors made it a sweep winning the tiebreaker over rival Brunswick. Both teams finished with 39 points. Glynn Academy had the highest sixth-place finish, 16 to 19. Ware County was one competitor shy of a five-member squad.

Trailing the Lady Pirates were Effingham County (65), host Wayne County (130), Wilcox County (142), PCHS (145) and Atkinson County (156).

The Gators’ Damari Bennett had the best finish of the local schools placing 10th in the field of 110 runners with a time of 19:24. The winning time was 16:18.

Bennett’s teammates included Brayten Hood (21st; 20:09), Josh Smith (36th; 20:57), Lorenzo Harris (42nd; 21:14), Brock Payne (52nd; 21:29), Giovanni Solorio (55th; 21:40), Taishaun Muchinson (58th; 21:51), Easton Spikes (79th; 23:59), Seth King (83rd; 24:41), Silas Mixon (84th; 24:44), Ashton Stormant (98th; 28:03), Joel Gaona (100th; 28:13), T.J. Burse (101st; 28:13) and Colton Landrum (103rd; 29:02).

The Lady Gators’ Yaneli Martinez placed fifth in the field of 69 runners posting a time of 22:01 to trail the winning time of 20:31. She was followed by Faith Williams (29th; 27:43), Millie Bennett (37th; 29:23) and Alexa Valesqez (49th; 30:48).

The Lady Bears were paced by Selah Griffis, who placed 16th with a time of 25:13. Finishing behind Griffis were Addison Taylor (18th; 25:35), Mattie Gardner (56th; 32:12), Marlie Ryals (56th; 32:12) and Addison Folette (60th; 32:23).

Brandon Yepes paced the Bears with an 18th-place showing in a time of 19:51. Followig Yepes were Jared Watson (24th; 20:20), Brooks Roberson (27th; 20:33), Breck Benton (41st; 21:13), Samuel Carrillo (43rd; 21:20), Cooper Johnson (59th; 21:52) and Coleman Lee (62nd; 22:17).
