The bite has been a little slow this week. Lakes and ponds still produced some good reports. It won’t be long until the fish start to change to their fall patterns.
River gauges as of Thursday, September 3:
• Doctortown on the Altamaha – 4.1 feet and falling
• Lumber City on the Ocmulgee – 1.2 feet and rising
• Clyo on the Savannah – 3.3 feet and rising
• Statenville on the Alapaha – 3.6 feet and falling
• Alapaha on the Alapaha – 2.9 feet and steady
• Waycross on the Satilla – 8.8 feet and rising
• Atkinson on the Satilla – 5.8 feet and steady
• Quitman on the Withlacoochee – 3.9 feet and falling
• Macclenny on the St. Marys – 2.9 feet and falling
• Fargo on the Suwannee – 5.4 feet and steady Altamaha River – Justin Harrison and his dad fished the middle river. They managed to catch eight nice bass. The biggest one weighed around 3-1/2 pounds.
They fooled the fish on a Berkley Choppo, a black Zoom Trick Worm, and a chartreuse/black colored crankbait. Justin reported he lost a giant bass. The fish came off close to the boat.
Lakes/Ponds – A man named Coop fished at Ocmulgee Public Fishing Area for around 11-1/2 hours. He landed 12 nice-sized bass. Five of the bass weighed between 4-5 lbs. and the rest weighed under three pounds.
Ken Burke also fished at Ocmulgee PFA and managed to catch four bass up to 3.5-lbs.
Some anglers have been catching some nice bluegill at Paradise Public Fishing Area while fishing with worms on bottom.
I won first place and big fish at a tournament last Saturday.
Two anglers night fished at a lake and reported they caught a few small bass.
A tournament was held at Banks Lake and itt took 21 pounds to win first place and the big fish weighed over 10 pounds.
Okefenokee Swamp – Captain Bert Deener fished the east side of the Okefenokee Swamp for 2 ½ hours with his 8-weight fly rod and Bladed Flies.
He landed 11 bowfin during the short trip. The biggest one weighed 9-lbs. 12-oz. (his personal best with a fly rod). The three colors of Bladed Flies that they ate were Electric Chicken, Fire Tiger, and yellow.

Saltwater – Captain Tim Cutting and his wife, Michelle, fished the Saint Simons area and caught around six trout and six flounder. They used Berkley Gulp baits.
Skip Vinton and Captain Tim landed six redfish, six trout and 12 flounder on another trip. The lures of the day were McDaniell’s Tackle bucktail jigs, Fourseven Lures plastics and Berkeley Gulp plastics.
