Waycross Area Community Theatre opens its 2026-27 season by staging “The Savannah Sipping Society” over two weekends beginning Thursday, October 1 at the historic Ritz Theatre, 321 Pendleton Street.

Next month’s production is the first of four on the WACT schedule. The others are “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” in December, “Annie” in March, and “The Mousetrap” in May.

“The Savannah Sipping Society” is a laugh-out-loud comedy by Jones Hope Wooten about four unique southern women who bond over weekly happy hours on a veranda to reclaim their zest for life. The cast of characters includes:

• Randa Covington (Bethany Mercer), a perfectionist workaholic architect who suffers from a surprise career derailment and realizes she has no personal life;

• Marlafaye Mosley (Betsy Kingsbury), a brassy wisecracking Texas transplant who loves bourbon and is reeling after her husband of 30 years left her for a younger woman;

• Dot Haigler (Tara Cox), a recent widow struggling to make sense of her future after losing the retirement plans she shared with her husband;

• Jinx Jenkins (Amy Worthington), a fledgling, fast-talking life coach dealing with her own hidden struggles who appoints herself as the group’s guide.

There also is an appearance by the Grandmother (Debbie Ratliff). The show is being directed by Pam Fields.

Show dates and times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, October 1-3 and 810, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 4. Admission is $18 per performance, and reservations may be made online at www.waycrossritz.com.

Advance tickets for group’s of 20 or more are $10. Tickets also may be purchased one hour before the curtain goes up on each show at the theatre’s box office.

WACT season memberships now also are available. Purchasing a season membership saves money off the regular admission price and includes a listing as a patron in theatre playbills.
