NICHOLLS — Mrs. Peggy Susan Smith Pearson, 74, of Nicholls, passed away Sunday afternoon, August 30, 2026, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas.
Born October 23, 1952 in Willacoochee, she lived in Patterson prior to moving t o Nicholls in 2012. Mrs. Pearson was a 1970 graduate of Ribault Senior High School in Jacksonville, Fla.
She went to work for BellSouth for several years before switching careers and going into the medical profession. In 1994, Mrs. Pearson obtained a degree in Emergency Management and went to work for St. Vincent’s in their ER department as a paramedic.
In 2000, she graduated from Gilford Tech in Greensboro, N.C. and received her RN (Registered Nurse) degree working as an ER nurse in Springfield, Ga. In her free time, she enjoyed playing on the computer, learning new things, and sewing – “If you can dream it, I can sew it” – was her motto.
Mrs. Pearson was of the Baptist faith.
She was a daughter of the late Felder Smith. She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Allen Cason and Tristin Aspinwall; and a sister, Linda Nell Smith.
Survivors include her husband, James “Jim” King III of Nicholls; two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie an Michael Cason of Patterson and Sandy and Rick Head of Blackshear; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Rhonda Denison of Jesup; four sisters, Jean Sears and Mary (Tony) Perez and Nancy Sands all of Callahan, and Sharon (Cecil) Dixon of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Randall (Liz) Smith of St. White, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service for Mrs. Pearson will be held Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 11 a.m., from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Williams officiating.
The family will be receiving friends in the chapel one hour prior to the service.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
