Thanks to a special grant through Quality Care for Children (QCC), the Ware County Head Start Center recently was able to create an indoor play space for its attendees. “We were able to transform an empty space and create an environment where the children are able to run and play and utilize their gross motor skills, no matter the weather,” said Center Coordinator Alaycia Staten. The items were funded by USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Staten said physical activity is an integral part of the Head Start program, which is administered by action pact, as it strives to teach children, and their families, the importance of exercise, and the many skills children learn through this type of play. For more than 40 years, QCC has remained Georgia’s leader in equipping parents and childcare providers with the resources needed for providing high quality, affordable child care. The organization provides on-site consulting, training, business resources, and nutrition programs to childcare programs and supports parents with a free referral service and tuition assistance for low-income families.
