Memorial Satilla Health has recognized Jacob Monk, RN in ICU, as the latest recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Monk, a Registered Nurse in the intensive care unit, was nominated for the quarterly honor by the sibling of a past patient, highlighting his exceptional clinical skill and compassionate care. The patient's sister described Monk as a source of safety and reassurance during a frightening time, noting he continued to speak calmly and respectfully to the patient even while she was unresponsive. He carefully explained the care plan, anticipated potential next steps, and made sure the family understood what to expect. His compassion extended beyond clinical care when, at the patient's request, he stopped what he was doing, held the patient’s hands and her sister’s, and prayed with them. “Jacob didn't just provide medical care, he provided safety and peace during a scary time for my sister and me. He truly has found his calling in life,” the award nomination read.
