William ‘Bill’ Perry Barber

William “Bill” Perry Barber, 79, of Blackshear, passed away early Saturday morning, August 29, 2026, following an extended illness.

Born February 4, 1947, in Blackshear, he was a son of the late James Everett “Rube” and Sarah Bell Dixon Barber. He lived all of his life in Pierce and Brantley Counties and was a 1966 graduate of Hoboken High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired as a carman from CSX Transportation in 2010.

He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Blackshear, where he was a member and former teacher of the Men’s Sunday School Class.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Annette Yeomans and two brothers, Jimmy Barber and Wayne Barber.

Survivors include his wife, Gwen Peacock Barber, Blackshear; four children, Sonya Parker (husband David), Blackshear, Perry Barber (wife Brandi), Waycross and Denise Guy (husband Lonnie), Blackshear and Matt Barber (wife Beth), Blackshear; 10 grandchildren, Megan (Walt) Taylor, Cassie (Dylan) Lee, Halie Parker, Taylor (Maddie) Barber, Avery (Courtney) Guy, Trey (Hannah) Barber, Drew Guy, Sarah Guy, Grayson Barber and Connor Barber; seven great-grandchildren and another expected soon; three brothers, George Barber, Coward, SC. Johnny Barber, Blackshear and Jerry Barber (wife Suzy), Blackshear; sister, Ginger Strickland (husband Michael), Blackshear and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, from the Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Adam Walker and the Rev. Buddy Griner officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Pine Grove Men’s Sunday School Class.

A private family graveside service was held Tuesday morning, September 1, at High Bluff Cemetery in Brantley County with the Rev. Greg Carter officiating.
