Peggy Susan Smith Pearson, 74, of Nicholls, passed away Sunday afternoon, August 30, 2026, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas.
Born in Willacoochee, October 23, 1952, she lived in Patterson prior to moving to Nicholls in 2012. She was a 1970 graduate of Ribault Senior High School in Jacksonville, FL.  She went to work for BellSouth for several years before switching careers and going into the medical profession. She obtained a degree in emergency management in 1994 and went to work for St. Vincent’s in their ER department as a paramedic. She graduated from Gilford Tech in Greensboro, NC in 2000 and received her RN degree working as an ER nurse in Springfield.  In her free time, she enjoyed playing on the computer, learning new things and sewing – “If you can dream it, I can sew it” – was her motto.  She was of the Baptist faith.
She was a daughter of the late Felder Smith. She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Allen Cason and Tristin Aspinwall and a sister, Linda Nell Smith.
Survivors include her husband, James “Jim” King III, Nicholls; two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie (Michael) Cason, Patterson and Sandy and Rick Head, Blackshear; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Rhonda Denison,  Jesup; her mother, Nellie Steverson Smith, Callahan, FL; four sisters, Jean Sears, Mary (Tony) Perez and Nancy Sands, all of Callahan and Sharon (Cecil) Dixon, Jacksonville; a brother, Randall (Liz) Smith, Ft. White, FL; 10 grandchildren; 14 great -grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Williams officiating.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
