Lawana Elizabeth Rowland Arowood, 83, of Blackshear, passed away early Wednesday morning, August 26, 2026, at her residence.
Born in Blackshear June 5, 1943, she lived in Pierce County all her life. She was a Blackshear High School graduate and would go on to graduate from business school in Jacksonville. She worked for The Blackshear Bank for several years before receiving training as a CNA as well as in medical transcription. She worked and would later go on to retire from Blackshear Family Practice as their medical transcriptionist after 18 years of service. She was considered a “homebody” who enjoyed reading and doing puzzles – especially crossword puzzles and taking care of her numerous animals over the years. She was a member of Blackshear First Baptist Church and the Alathean Sunday school class. Even though she had not been able to attend church in person, she was faithful to listen to it every Sunday. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her great grandchildren.
She was a daughter of the late Ledford A. Rowland and Evelyn Luke Thomas. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Roscoe Arowood Jr.; an infant son, Timothy Jay Arowood; her sister, Melba Aldridge and her brother, David Watson.
Survivors include her two daughters, Amy Ellis and Beth (Joe) Steverson, both of Blackshear; four grandchildren, Danny Ellis (Lindsay Crenshaw), Christopher (Ashley) Ellis, Dustin (Kelsey) Cloud and Kady Cloud; six great-grandchildren, Brooke Ellis, Airiz Ellis, Ezra Ellis, Hazel Ellis, Lynnlee Cloud and Jed Cloud; her pet cat, Pepper and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In keeping with her wishes, the family will have a private service to celebrate her life.
Memorialization was by cremation.
