Parks & rec guide, property for sale part of new city website
The City of Waycross has been upgrading its website to become more user-friendly, and last week detailed some of the changes in a post on its social media platforms.
Among the upgrades and new pages are those with information on:
• Parks and Recreation;
• City-owned property for sale;
• Know your district and commissioner; • “Ask Wally,” the city’s “answer animal” has the information to take your questions 24-7.
Parks & Recreation
Until now, finding out what was at a city park meant already knowing the park’s name or visiting it so see.
Public Works Director Matt Elwell has done the work, going park to park, district by district with a camera and notepad in hand.
The result is a new page with all 26 city and county parks, their addresses, facilities and amenities, and photos of nearly all. There’s also a map and driving directions link.
The page contains hours for all parks, days and hours of operation for the splash pads at Garlington, Elizabeth Street and Pernell Roberts Memorial.
The pool at Bailey Street Park is operated by Ware County with its information available by calling (912) 287-4300.
It also offers the application to reserve a shelter at a park or have a facility’s available restrooms opened for a gathering. The application can be sent to the Waycross Police Department for approval filled out in person at the WPD office on Oak Street.
Properties for sale
If you’ve ever wondered what property the city actually owns and whether any of it could be yours, it’s on this new page.
Available Properties for Sale lists 29 city-owned parcels and eight Land Bank properties — everything from small infill lots to a 36-acre tract. Each listing shows the parcel number, acreage, zoning, the commission district it sits in, and aerial photos so you can see the lot before you drive out.
Prices aren't published. Those with an interest in a tract can contact Purchasing and submit a written offer with the parcel number and what you intend to do with it.
Every sale goes before the city commission at a public meeting. Land Bank properties work through an application, reviewed monthly, and the board weighs your proposed use and timeline heavily.
Commission District Not sure who represents your street? The Voting Districts page now has a Find Your District map.
You can pull it up, find your neighborhood, and see which of the five commission districts you're in. From there, the Mayor & City Commission page has contact details for each commissioner.
‘Ask Wally’ The city is seeking feedback on the changes and if something is missing, like maybe on “Ask Wally,” the city wants to know. Check out www.waycrossga.gov and offer your views in the comment section.
