WAYCROSS — Elmer Alvin Baldwin, Jr., 70, passed away Friday morning, August 21, 2026, at his residence after an extended illness.

He was born December 20, 1955 in Jacksonville, Fla., to the late Elmer Alvin Baldwin and Mildred Ruth Hall Baldwin bef ore moving to Waycross in 1969. Baldwin served in the United States Army, and retired from the City of Waycross Water Department as a supervisor.

He was originally a member of Waresboro Church of God, but he later pastored Friendship Freewill Baptist Church for 14 years. Baldwin was the type of person who never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone. He loved spending time with people, and he deeply loved his family.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Rachel C. Corbitt.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Sherrie Carlson Baldwin of Waycross; siblings, James Baldwin of Alma, Melvina Odum of Waycross, and Darrell Baldwin of Waycross; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, August 26) at Jamestown Baptist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. at the church. His remains will be laid to rest at Kettle Creek Cemetery.
